Children’s lives are shaped by Education
More than 3.7 million school-age refugee children have no school to go to. Refugees are five times more likely to be out of school than the global average.
Refugees often live in regions where governments are already struggling to educate their own children. They face the additional task of finding school places and learning materials for tens of thousands of newcomers, who often do not speak the language of instruction.
More than half of the world’s out-of-school refugee children and adolescents are located in just seven countries and STC is operating in one of them, Turkey. Here, only 39 per cent of school-age Syrian refugee children and adolescents are enrolled in primary and secondary education.

OUR INTERVENTION
How We Help Jannah & Basil
To give you an insight, Jannah Ramadan & her brother Basil Ramadan are two orphan refugees that we at STC sponsor for school education. Their small family fled from Syria 8 years ago after losing their home and sadly their father to the conflict. Jannah & Basil aged 8 and 9, along with their mother and two other siblings now live in the Southern Turkish town of Reyhanli close to the Syrian border.
In Sept 2018, with our support they both were admitted into Ozel Reyhanli Sahika Kogeli, a private Turkish school and for the past 3 years have been excelling in their studies. The school has a very high standard of education with a comprehensive curriculum and excellent facilities. We also facilitate their transport to and from school via the school minibus service.
